TIPS !

The best option in Manaus is to arrive around noon, overnight there and next morning take a private boat tour for 2 nights along the Rio Negro or starting on the Solimões and crossing to the Rio Negro the next day.

Another option is to stay at a typical jungle lodge with electricity from 6 to 10 pm only and have a native indian to guide us during the local tours.

Try it!

FISHING IN THE AMAZON BASIN

If one of your dreams is fresh water fishing, then you should try this unique experience in the Amazon basin-one of the few places that remains primitive. The Tucunaré is the most beautiful and exiting fish to catch. The Surubim is also another great specie.

Amazon , Manaus , Belém and Marajó Island
                                                   BELÉM - PARÁ STATE
Along with visiting the usual tourist attractions, such as Emilio Goeldi Musem, Rodrigues Alves Wood, Ver-o-Pêso Market, Forte do Castelo (or Forte do Presépio), the Teatro da Paz and churches, we will visit one of the most interesting and historical areas are the pedestrian area. Here, many old houses are covered with beautiful tiles made in Portugal. Unfortunately, many of the tiles have been stolen and sold to private collectors. Hammocks should be bought there. The "Estação das Docas" is an example how an abandoned Port can be revitalized and became the "In Place" for those who want to enjoy the night in a safe way.
                                                      MARAJÓ ISLAND
An early ferry boat trip to Marajó Island will take us to the Buffalo Island. Our target is Soure, reached after 4 hour trip and then go to Pesqueiro Beach 10 mi away, where we can overnight on hammocks and have good, inexpensive seafood plates and nice cold beer. Our next adventure is an upstream boat tour along the Paracauari river, taking shortcuts such as the "Furo do Miguelão" between mangrove aerial roots that form a tunnel and finding a primitive brick mill hidden behind the banks of the river. A v
isit to a buffalo farm to taste buffalo steak and cheese are also a must.

Besides the highlights of Manaus such as the "Teatro Amazonas" (1896), the Adolfo Lisboa Market, and the Rio Negro Palace, the best way to know the jungle and its surroundings - waterfalls, and beaches during low water season - is by taking a good motorized canoe with an experienced pilot. We buy all our food - including meat to fish for piranhas !- cachaça, beer, fuel and off we go on an adventure of a lifetime! The hammocks bought in Belem will be our beds during our stay in the jungle. We are free to overnight wherever we like. The only time commitment we have is our next flight. A visit to a jungle lodge is also recommended.
